Are you gluten free?? or are you hoping a gluten free diet will help you lose weight?
What is gluten and why do people without this intolerance choose to eat a gluten free diet and is this safe?? I seen a few weeks ago that a cafe has set new rules that who ever orders from their gluten free range has to show with a doctors note that he/she actually has a gluten intolerant, all because a women order a gluten free item and when asked “are you Celiac”? and “do you know what the even means”? she didn’t know what to say….
So what is Gluten? Gluten is composed of two proteins found in wheat and grains including, barley, rye and oats.
Is Gluten bad? NO, only for someone who is gluten sensitive or has celiac disease, or IBS. When someone who has this disease or sensitivity consumes gluten, it triggers an immune response that damages their intestines, stopping them from absorbing vital nutrients.
THE EFFECTS OF GOING GLUTEN FREE WHEN NOT INTOLERANT
I am reading and hearing alot about people taking up gluten free diets that are not intolerant because it makes them feel better, they don’t feel as bloated. If this is you then it is worth going to the doctors and finding out if you are intolerant. Going on a gluten free diet when not intolerant could be detrimental to your health for a few reasons.
1) most gluten free products are nutrient deficient, which mean you will be lacking in the vital nutrients your body can handle
2) Gluten free products can actually interfere with weight loss and make you put on weight as food manufacturers often include additional fat or sugar to make gluten free products tastier.
